The World's Richest President

The house is outside the city. A badly maintained footpath passes by the house. Laundry is outside the house. Water is drawn from a well in the garden. House is kept by two police officers and a three-legged dog. This is the house of the president.

Former guerrilla leader, spent 14 years in jail, the last president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, working in the fields with his wife, grow flowers. The only asset  he has is a Volkswagen Beetle 1987. 90% of his monthly salary is donated . The poorest president in the world.

Now slow down your voice and listen to his simple and so miraculous words:

"I look like an eccentric old man but This is a free choice. "

"I've lived a significant part of my life like this"

" I can live in a best way with which I have now"

"They call me the world's poorest president but I myself do not feel poor. Poor people are the ones, who always want more and more to survive an expensive life.

He doesn't support a welfare model which aims to increase consumption:

"Now I ask you, if all the Indians, with the same proportion of Germans, would be a car owner; how this planet stay to be a place to live ? how much oxygen would be left for us? "

Do you think this planet is ready for 7 or 8 billion people to live at the same level as today's rich countries? Does the world has enough resources to meet this consumption ? Hyper-consumption is the one to destroy the planet. "

"End of the world will come with a blind obsession to aim development by consumption growth"
